In Loving Memory of Gandalf

When Roman Smith was just 9 years old, a tiny kitten named Gandalf — affectionately known as Gannie — came into his life and instantly changed it forever. That was back in 2003, and from that day forward, the two were inseparable.

Gannie was there through every chapter of Roman’s story. From childhood adventures to teenage challenges, from late-night homework to major life decisions, Gannie was always by his side. Each morning, Roman would wake to find his loyal friend curled up next to him, purring softly as if to say, “Don’t worry, I’m here.”

Though small in size, Gannie had the heart of a lion. He shared a home with large dogs and other cats, yet he ruled the house with quiet confidence. Still, beneath that proud and fearless spirit was a gentle soul — the moment anyone reached out to pet him, he would melt completely, eager for affection and love.

As the years went by, time began to slow Gannie down, but it never weakened the bond he shared with Roman. He stayed close — keeping him company during long nights of gaming, meowing impatiently when dinner ran late, and filling the home with warmth just by being there.

After twenty beautiful years together, Gandalf’s journey came to an end. Before saying goodbye, Roman put on an orange shirt — the very same color he wore in their first photo together — and recreated that moment from two decades ago. The new picture stands as a deeply emotional reminder of a friendship that spanned a lifetime: a boy and his cat, side by side, from beginning to end.

Gandalf may no longer be here in body, but his love, his comfort, and his quiet companionship will forever live in Roman’s heart. Some bonds are simply timeless — and theirs was one of them. 💛
