Holly had barely started her rounds when the doors to her unit burst open. A gurney flew in at full speed, pushed by two paramedics who looked genuinely shaken. The kind of shaken you don’t see unless something is seriously wrong. Nurses turned their heads. Alarms sounded. The scene felt real because everyone involved made it real.
Holly stepped closer, trying to get a clear look at the patient. The second she saw the face under the blanket, her entire world dropped out from under her. It was her boyfriend. Pale. Unresponsive. Completely still.

Half the comments called it the most romantic thing they’d ever seen. A grand gesture proving how deeply he loved her. The other half said it was too much. Faking a medical emergency, they argued, is a line you simply don’t cross.
But for Holly, once her heart stopped racing and her brain caught up, one thing was clear. It was a moment she’d never forget. The worst five minutes of her life turned into the happiest.
